Eco-Buddies

Global Warming is something I assume all of us to be aware of,being science students so without going into its definition we woud see what lead us to write about it on the blog.Global Warming is really a big problem we have to deal with nowadays, because it has the potential to change forever our lives and our planet's environment as we know them, and this would affect the whole mankind. There are huge social, political, and economic issues that will rise if we don't do something to stop the skyrocketing rise of the temperatures.
Green house gases can stay in the atmosphere for an amount of years ranging from decades to hundreds and thousands of years. No matter what we do, global warming is going to have some effect on Earth.Listing down just a few of them:

1. Spread of disease
Thanks to global warming, malaria has not been fuly eradicated.

2. Rise in ocean temperature, more hurricanes

3. More droughts and heat waves in Africa

4. Economic imbalances

5. Polar ice caps melting
-if all glaciers melted today the seas would rise about 230 feet!!! (avg man's height in the wrld is only 5feet sumthing)
-global ecosystem will be out of balance, making sea water less salty n screwing up the ocean currents which regulates the temperature
-several species of animals will be endangered. the most adaptive might just survive.
-ice caps act as reflectors,if they melt earth would be more warm, leading to no winters(tragic for fashion industry-no winter fall collections)

I'm sure the story uptill now must be clear to all and we hav realised that the villain is growing in power,so has the world. The Climate heros (including Mr Jairam Ramesh Minister for environment and forests, India) are trying to negotiate at the Copenhagen Climate Summit,we can build our own army in campus and contribute in our own little way to fight against Mr Villian.

MITs....Luxamberg..... home away 4m home :)

The perfect date...candle light dinner....with the one u love.... and there he kneels down...hold your hand...places a diamond clad ring in you finger..and....and...

Peppeepp...peeppeeppp...peeppeeepp...
“uth jaa kamini...warna class phir mis karegi”
No ...my dear babe’s in the woods ...its not someone’s mom freaking out...how could you forget your second mom, your best friend, your room’s worst or better half . With each morning when you lazily wake up or wake someone up (as mentioned above ) , you feel love in your heart , for someone so close. You do stay mum, but you cant deny. While brushing sleepily, you have your eye on a door, and someone’s exit from that is expected, to check if the person is awake or not. You have someone , infact lot many, to chatter with during the breakfast, a few less at luch , and a whooping gang ( what people like me fondly might call ) . Fun , at present , life , college .
Well what if one day you’re ( as you would be thinking at present ) , the happiest , finally out of MODY, will you ever wonder, what was behind, what has changed your existence.

Will  not attending classes affect you someday, will you miss some whatever people (as the lingo calls them ), will you miss the bitching around and endless gossip hours, the dirty birthday parties, the hearts that were put in and the laughs that came out ? will you ever learn to live, without these memories?
4 years , and life would move on. But there will remain things that one would love to brush through again, words that you wish could get back to you, a room that was once yours and a life that was once loved.
Because the Maggie parties would still go on, but what would change, will be the people partying, the room will still be filled, and still you would dare call it your room ( they say old habits die hard ).
Even now the bathrooms will be empty in early mornings of the dreadful winters, the coffee’s would be gladly welcomed still, but somewhere in your office room and not in the usual mess.
The comments on some bitches would still be passed on by you, but will it be that fun with no one by your side , to laugh and to fight back . when high on fever , will there again be someone , who would help you recover and take you to clinics .
Will the walks down new FET be hated any more or less, when will you feel so eager to have an ice cream , like it feels when served in mess.
When do you next plan to line up for coffee, when next will you roam in corridors , when next will you shout in bathrooms , when will you next plan an event , when next will you see your friends, when next will the word GROUP...mean the closest thing to you in the entire world?
I don’t know when next will I find a chance to say I’ll miss you!
So I’m saying it here.....
any one who wants to join .....  :)

Dedicated to our back bencher frnz.....

this boring class,
this sleepy mass,
makes me wonder y m here
to b a part of the croud mere...

one teacher comes..speaks n goes..
n so forth this process follows..
no one thinks of the dreamy eyes,
who wana hv fun n so everythin they try..

those lil eyes looking at the board,
nt a single thing in dere mind ever goes,
bt still like statues they sit,
n in dere thots dey miss.....

they miss dere mobiles kept in d room,
they miss dere frnz in similar loom,
they miss dere lovers far frm dem,
as they r all surrounded by the girl's mayhem...

planning the evenings in dere minds,
with wt all movies the day will wind,
the special samosas of sharma treat,
celebrating the b'days using our EG sheets....

looking at the tym again nd again,
trying to concentrate on the amplifiers n gains,
bt leme tell u its al in vain,
nthin cn go in dis sleepy brain....

bt i bet u dere will b a tym,,
wen v'l b smewhere else to shine,
bt never will dis sleepy cls go away frm our minds,
never will v frgt dis marvellous tym....

we will crave fr dese evenings,
we will think of the b'days,
we will want everythin to stay,
bt the things will vanish smewhere arnd d lane.....

FLY AWAY

Make a move and

Open all the gates.

Veil away yours fears, to

Enlighten your fate. Go

Rekindle those desires to

Shimmer like the fire.

Adhere to your wishes....

Nurture your dreams....

Dare to say – “I wanna gleam”

Search, peek, peep and seek for more,

Hues all around are waiting to be explored.

Approach, reproach, go out when you get bored.

Keep working for all that should be yours.

Express yourself in your own way....

Risk everything to feel that ray....

Spread your wings wide, and fly away. JJ

PS: This form of poetry is called ACROSTIC i.e.,  a poem in which certain letters of the lines, usually the first letters, form a word or message relating to the subject

I wish I owned a cloud

A dark shady cloud
Like a stale corpse wrapped in grey-black shroud
Deep within the spirits dance
Cloaked in their murky gown
Look there it goes, grows, rises, dips and drowns
Strips, splits,  drools and frowns
Builds its own air castle and a town
Far so low on my planet green and brown
Wandering around goes a baby kid
With no friends no toys in the surrounds
He looks up
Wonders if the sky really has no bounds
Glances at the cloud
Not one, there are so many more
And they make a world of their own
It seems so soft
Waving like a witch’s hair tuft
Dark in fury yet so calm
The stillness hooks me with a gaze
I want no house on the land
I wish I owned a little cloud.

Who Rules the Roost in Our Universe?????

Homo Sapiens. If this Latin nomenclature is defined as 'the species which is ruling the world' then most of the viewers of my blog will not find this explanation obnoxious to a great extent. But some silly and gruesome thoughts often erupt in my mind regarding this matter. Is the reign really ours? If we approve in favor of this question then why are we unable to escape the plunder caused by the turbulent tsunamis? And why cant we avoid the frequent earth tremors which are largely successful to shake our lives completely? We fall short of a plausible explanation for this and that we (in the current stage of scientific advancement) have no control over the earth's fury.
Lemme not use the term "nature's fury" here, cuz flora and fauna including all humans form a part of nature. And we are not frightened of any types of plants and animals around us. Are we? I can fall a hundred year old tree which may be very huge whenever I wish to. The other day I killed a leech sitting on my windowsill or can even kill a lion in the jungle as a pleasure hunt. These instances are evidences of our supremacy over them. So I call it earth's fury and not nature's fury. If we look back at the past we see that the dinosaurs, even when man caught a glimpse of them could scare the living daylights out of him. But yeah we are SAFE now :).. Thank god we have got rid of them. Even if they would have survived, we would stick a few wands in the dino's nostrils and then cast a few spells on it and it would fall down on the ground with a thud just like the troll in the Harry Potter's fantasies. Huh! it would have been damn adventurous. But my mind says it all very differently. Like if I make you admit that earth's fury defeats our so-called powerful species. Then it obviously holds some underlying force. We often study about the age of the earth by carbon dating. What if science in the not too distant future reveals that the earth is living? Just like we eat, sleep, and walk the earth also performs activities which seem to us like storms, cyclones, quakes and tornadoes. Actually non living things generally do not show locomotion as I was taught in class 6 (:p)... I call it the earth's fury but it would actually turn out to be the most supreme living element of the universe.

Survive Cervical Cancer!!!

Cancer that forms in tissues of the cervix (the organ connecting the uterus and vagina). It is usually a slow-growing cancer that may not have symptoms but can be found with regular Pap tests (a procedure in which cells are scraped from the cervix and looked at under a microscope). Cervical cancer is almost always caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.
The cervix is the opening of the uterus connected to the upper vagina. It is known as the neck of the uterus. The lower end of the cervix has an opening called the external os, and before childbirth it is about 5mm in diameter. It dilates to 10cm during labour  to allow for childbirth and never regains its former shape, changing to a slit approximately 7mm long.  Normally the cervix is pink in colour but turns bluish in pregnancy because of an increased blood supply. The cancer cells may be present in the cervix for 4-10 years before becoming invasive, affecting the deeper tissues and giving rise to symptoms. Even when the cancer is invasive , there is an 80% chance of successful cure. Once it spreads through the pelvis to the vagina, uterus, bladder or rectum, it is much more difficult to cure.

Cervical Cancer Symptoms

    * Abnormal bleeding. Women with cervical cancer may experience abnormal vaginal bleeding. This can be heavy or light bleeding during the month.

    * Unusual heavy discharge. An increased vaginal discharge is also a symptom of cervical cancer. It may be foul smelling, watery, thick, or contain mucus. It varies from woman to woman. It is important to report any unusual vaginal discharge to your doctor.

    * Pelvic pain. Pelvic pain that is not related to the normal menstrual cycle can be a cervical cancer symptom. Many women describe them ranging from a dull ache to sharp pains that can last hours. It can be mild or severe.

    * Pain during urination. Bladder pain or pain during urination can be a symptom of advanced cervical cancer. This cervical cancer symptom usually occurs when cancer has spread to the bladder.

    * Bleeding between regular menstrual periods, after sexual intercourse, douching, or pelvic exam. Bleeding after sexual intercourse, douching, or pelvic exam can be cervical cancer symptoms. This is due to the irritation of the cervix during these activities. While a healthy cervix may have a very small amount of bleeding, many conditions may cause bleeding after activities like sex.

The way by which this cancer is growing in our country is alarming. We need to keep a vigil and stay careful as to it does not happen to the people around us as well as to ourselves.
A lot has been done for its cure everywhere around the world.
Here are some facts and figures -

MSD Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, launched the world's only vaccine, Gardasil, in India recently to prevent fatal onslaught of cervical cancer.

India has the highest number of cervical cancer in the world, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a part of the World Health Organisation (WHO). It affects only women, mostly in late 40s or early 50s, through human contact. Every year, around 74, 000 patients die in the country out of 1,32,000 women diagnosed with this deadly disease.

"Across the world, around 2,80,000 women die of this disease every year and 27% of these deaths occur in India alone," said Anjana Narain, director (vaccine) of MSD. The virus called Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which infects mostly women, causes the disease. This virus gets transmitted through sexual contact and even preventive measures like contraceptives cannot prevent it from entering a woman's body, said Partho Basu, head of the department of gynaecological oncology, Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute.

"From infection, the virus takes 15-20 years to develop and attack as cervical cancer in a woman's body, so the preventive vaccine should be administered from the age of 9-26 years, so by the time a girl reaches her late 40s she is safeguarded," Basu added.

Gardasil(vaccine for Cervical) is available in more than 100 countries(including India) now. "It was introduced by Merck & Co Inc in 2006 first in the US and since then, 36 million doses have been administered to women living across 108 countries," said Narain. A one-time dose given thrice in a span of a year, the vaccine should be administered between the age of 9 and 26 years, with per dose coming at a price of Rs 2,800. This type of cancer takes more life than any other form in the world, she added.

Creative Assignment #1

Digital Scrapbooking
Creative assignment

Seems like you’ve stopped scrapbooking these days? Surely you are missing the fun of tagging people there along with the little sticker’s that are there of all the cartoon’s and barbie’s. Here’s a solution to get grip of those days again. And this time you can have a digital scrapbook that does not wear out no matter what, and stays with you all life through. What better could be a way of tagging and scrapping in your college days!

Its digital scrapbooking that I’m bragging about !!

This is one way to capture and preserve memories these days. In this, You use a graphics  or photo editing program to design your pages.
The most commonly used programs are Adobe Photoshop (PS), Adobe Photoshop Elements (PSE), Jasc Paint Shop Pro (PSP), Microsoft Digital Image Pro (DIP) or Ulead Photo Impact (PI). It is also possible to use other programs such as FotoFusion, but does not have the same capabilities as the other programs.

You might be thinking who will take up all this pain?? But ironically, it would just lesson it all up.

Lets see how ->

Photo Enhancement:  since we all are seemingly born with obsession about our photo’s and keep clicking for our sake , photos can be uploaded from your digital camera right into your computer. Or, you can scan your photos & edit them in your photo editing program. With the programs that are out these days, you can apply various techniques, filters, add text or even create collages with your photos.  You can change a colour photo to black & white, leave it black & white but only have a spot of colour for added interest, create a sepia photo, or add designs & artistic photo edges to your photos.

Printing Options:  A huge plus for digital scrapbooking is the ability  to print out layouts multiple times to put in various albums.  No longer do we need to duplicate the entire page for each album, we can just print out multiples.  And the printing options are amazing.  Once you have the page complete, you can either upload it to an online picture printing source, such as 2Ps Pictures or you can print them at home.

Undo:  How many times have you made a scrapbooking mistake & either had to throw something out or tear it apart?  Well, in Digital Scrapbooking, if you ever make a mistake or place something you don’t like, there is the trusty ‘undo’ button.

Specialization – we can also specialize our digital scrapbook and mark the pictures by adding text to them.

Lets go and tag our friends then by making a scrapbook of our own!!

English Assignment #1

Unperturbed and undone

With thoughts floating around

I sit touched on the ground

I have a million things to do

I’m bounded , I know , I’m sound

There were words left said

And words you need to know

Words that sailed through

And words that drowned before I let them go

There were musings of my own

I always have them close

I abide by their certain ways

They breach rules often , more then I know

Then there were actions

That kindled and moved souls

Caressed my hunger of thoughts

And caused some more to follow

With heights that I attain

Even while settled low

I could engrave emotions

Minding all within, and all those meant to throw

I have around me

People , sage and devils ,therein

Its actions that checked the moves

And moves that lead me to know

I chase things I wanted

And get rid of those that chase me

For all they do is cage a person

Let me go, I am not your own

I thought I would write my mind

But there is one thing that I know

There are still a myriad facets left

Unperturbed and undone

They forever plan to remain so !

Hindi Assignment #1

Photography Assignment #1

Photo essay- do u see what i see...

It makes me speak a thousand words

Yet I’m rendered out without words

When I capture the entire story

It makes me believe in magic of sight

And that which so easily gathers my world

These certainly could be the words of a photographer , the one who captures his world with pictures. Not just mere pictures, the one that makes the camera speak and the frames play loud! In simple words --- “ A Photo Essay “ . It is the photographer’s way to show the entire story rather than one image. The collection of images spins a story that speaks for itself. Generally, there are about 5 to 15 , sometimes narrating themselves with captions, and sometimes not. Though there are no hard and fast rules for it to take shape, yet there are some common ways to do –

1.      1. Time sequence – the pictures are in chronological order, as if stills from a movie. This kind of photo essay can be used to depict an story where there is a link of time, capturing places, spaces, people and their moods, you name it, and its in frames!

Time sequence photo essays can also be expanded to cover longer amounts of time in less compact areas. It could be used to capture police chases to life, from birth till death.

2.    2.   Location – people are known for the spaces they live in and all  of them have a story of their own.  Locations can be compact such as a school or garden, or vast such as a country. This kind of a photo essay need not be chronological, but it explores the place and its impacts. Much like a tour of that area.

3.    3.  Idea – an idea might not change your life, but can zoom and focus to make a photo essay. Be it an emotion or the dreary work, the photo’s will say it all. Because the ideas are so diverse in nature and can seldom be summed up , it’s preferred to have a common thread of ideas while working upon the photo essay. There can be a colour scheme or a symbol used too. These also can be used to depict flow of actions.

4.      4.Event essays – catering to anything and everything left we have this another category capturing events such as a marriage or a birth. They might not be time bound but are sure to elaborate upon an event, and no worries if you missed that one,its all there in that essay!!

There are moments of lifetime , those are forever stuck in our memories but often are faced again, and what could be another way of capturing moments, the ones that were near, and dear. So pick on your cam and get clicking , and remember, the essay says it all!!

Heres the lead for u to follow : http://www.thephotoessay.com/

Marketing Assignment #1

Viral marketing!!
With the viral season up in the town, we have a marketing term also gripping hold of the trend. And this time no sneezing and coughing coz all this marketing brings is money honey !
The words that hit these days are viral marketing and viral advertising.
These  refer to marketing techniques that use developed  social networks to augment  brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives (such as high product sales) through a viral process, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses. It can be word-of-mouth delivered or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet.
Word of mouth is a reference to the passing of information from person to person. Originally the term referred specifically to oral communication (literally words from the mouth), but now includes any type of human communication, such as face to face, telephone, email, and text messaging. Viral promotions may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash games, advertisement games, ebooks, brandable software, images, or even text messages.
The goal of marketers interested in creating successful viral marketing programs is to identify individuals with high Social Networking Potential (SNP) and create Viral Messages that appeal to this segment of the population and have a high probability of being taken by another competitor.
The way the world is changing, and adopting ways the viruses work !!
For plethora of reasons this is now the road to advancement and a way to accomplish goals. And this virus refuses to be cured!! At no cost it’s leaving.
Lets hope this time getting down with this virus helps you to recover your pockets in an innovative way.

Technical Assignment #1

Google Wave

The unbeatable Google has come up with yet another present for the masses. Google announces –“a personal communication and collaboration tool” pronounced-Google Wave. Waves as described by Google is "equal parts conversation and document". It is the new Internet communications platform wrapping up e-mail, instant messaging , wikis and social networking in to one box. Waves works like any other messaging or emailing system without needing to store the responses in the user’s inbox for context. In this the complete threads of multimedia messages called blips is stored on a central server. Any participant of a wave can reply anywhere within the message, edit any part of the wave (i.e message document), and add participants at any point in the process.

Google plans to release most of the source code as open source, allowing the public to develop its features through extensions as it wants the Wave protocol to replace the e-mail protocol. Waves are alive, all action on waves are visible in real time, letter by letter. Thus, it can function not only as e-mails and threaded conversations but also as an instant messaging service when many participants are online at the same time. Collaborative documents can be easily created by editing a wave at any location by the participants. Waves can link very easily to another wave. You can also use "playback" to rewind the wave and see how it evolved.Being an open protocol, anyone can use it to build a custom Wave system and become a wave provider. A key feature of the protocol is that waves are stored on the service provider's servers instead of being sent between users. Waves are federated; copies of waves and wavelets are distributed by the wave provider of the originating user to the providers of all other participants in a particular wave or wavelet so all participants have immediate access to up-to-date content. The originating wave server is responsible for hosting, processing, and concurrency control of waves. Google Wave was launched to nearly 1,00,000 users on September 30,2009. It is still in active development and is expected to remain in development until later in 2009.

Besides this that could be gathered from Wikipedia there is a developer preview and overview videos available on YouTube.

All said and done if you like me cant resist trying it out, the best thing to do is to request for an invitation on the following link and keep your fingers crossed…

Art Assignment #1

                                    The wall project

No its not another article on what lay behind the wall street breakdown and the consequences , its about another upbeat from the usual chores, done to foster creativity in their city as well as inspire others.

A full on art job, the people into this project are a bunch of enthusiasts, who wanted to paint the good old boring compound wall. There is no dearth of creativity in our country and they exemplify it with full regards. Set in an old East village of Bandra, with the talented all over the place in that village.

They have coloured in hue more than 60 pieces all over amchi Mumbai and are rearing to go!!

It was all done with a good cause to enrich and enliven people’s life by adding these elements of hue to their walls, giving them another reason to smile, another reason which would make their spaces alive  .  unknown of how the mass would react , initially people came out with weird looks speculating on what is being done, but then later on they all joined in vogue and vigour to help them accomplish the task of wall art !!

The old, the kids, the people who were tired of touching the monotony of lives everyday, planned to shift to colours as a respite. What more do you think can fill ones life ??

Its sole aim is to make people aware of the spaces that they are attached to, the ones that connects them, makes their world closed and confined, ones that click and surround, to generate the way in which creativity can be generated and people can enrich their lives.

As they say “ The wall project in its own way tries to start a conversation, with no political or religious attachments. “ the city is the canvas.......its a movement for all to take a forefront and come uo with what you want , implement it , get close to art, get known to your spaces !! and live them again!!

Journalism Assignment #1

         Mumbai, interrupted....again

“Again...what does she mean by again? Mumbai was interrupted in 2008. This is 2009 dear. WAKE UP.” Loads of you would have this very thought in your mind as you read the title. But I am not disillusioned and I have certainly not lost my sense of time. Tune in to any news channel on the TV and you will know what I am talking about. The same images that were flashing on 26/11/2008 would be flashing ‘again’. Taj will burn ‘again’, CST would be wounded by Kasab’s A.K 47 ‘again’, the sound of screams, gunshots, and the view of dead bodies will make you shiver ‘again’, the political parties would blame each other ‘again’, the intelligence would be questioned ‘again’ in short you will have the repeat telecast of those fateful 64 hours again.
But my question is “Do we need it again?  ” Is reliving the past with ‘exclusive footage’ correct. A year back this attack affected every Indian in some way or the other. We realised the futility of life. How a birthday, wedding anniversary or business dinner in posh hotel could turn into your last. How you could be shot while trying to catch your train back home. We realised that we were not safe anywhere. We lost trust in police, intelligence, army...in short we lost trust in the system which governs us. Not just the Mumbaiakars...deep down most of us were affected and it took time for things to get back to normal, or I should add that it took hell lot of time for Mumbai to rise again this time. But it did rise and this is what it is important.
Replaying the same tapes again, showcasing the same images again, holding the same discussions again will recreate the same fear. Nobody likes sad recaps because the same pain resurfaces. I know for people who lost their loved ones in this attack this day brings back tears but there is no benefit of putting all this up on LIVE TV. Because by doing this they are not decreasing their suffering in any way but on the other hand they indirectly make millions of other viewers afraid, restless and sad again. This kind of ‘journalism’ recreates panic. Life is all about moving forward. So rather than bringing back painful memories media should focus on what has changed. Are we any better off than last year?  Has the government done something to strengthen our security? Grieving families do not need media footage. What they need most is silent milieu, not just for remembering what they lost but also for figuring out how to move forward. Thrusting a mic on woman’s face who lost her husband to this carnage a year back and asking how she is feeling is what I call downright insensitive. You cannot even imagine her pain.  Reliving those moments is not important, what’s important is to ask that why it happened in first place. Let’s look forward not backwards. Discussions should be held not about what happened but why it happened and what is being done to not let it happen again. I think this would be the best TRIBUTE for the ones who lost.

Oouchh!! Campus #2

And yet there was another stunning phenomenon to add to the odds of this semester ... swine flu saga at MITS !!

The campus already counts high on whatever it takes to call it a wild an weary place , stretching across its area, that we had swine flu to join in too.

It was a normal Thursday afternoon going at its desired and expected pace that we have people suddenly entering the classes clad in masks over their faces and dreading something that would come up soon. During the classes (of course) they had all the time in the world to discuss the cause of why they had added this element to their attire ( and for those who did not know lets brief you with some activities that happened ).

There had been a medical team on the campus two or three days before examining every person which had the same symptoms as of those having swine flu ( cold , cough , fever , and everything that makes you wish you were at home ) . All of them were examined and Thursday was the day reportedly when their reports were due (big time ) . So here they were , accounting for 21 positive swine flu cases in the entire campus , 18 being from school girls and 3 from FET . Before such intricate details could spread its wings and encircle the campus , our FET’ians were ready to face everything that could come up their way.

So the news was all over the place , with inquisitiveness about whether this ordeal will turn into delaying of the semester exams or holidays or just going on with the normal flow. Speculations supported all the stated options though. Nothing was clear in sight , with different reports coming from all over the places , more the people , more variations to news . Finally came a news which said that notices have been put up in the inside hostels concerning the college off till 30th of November , starting from that moment itself and with no news of the semester examinations (that was to come a day after ) . And what follows was the hustle bustle. To add on , there were news channels to cover the story all around the campus, interviewing girls. With some people packing their bags to rush to their homes and catch the latest bus to jaipur, to some clouding at Ambika travels to book tickets of the following hours, to some at Photostat shops getting notes Photostat.

The swine flu saga became the talk of the town ( oops village ) . About people infected, the count , the numbers, the symptoms, consequences and what not . Suddenly numbers became the prediction of ones chances of survival against these odds. But the odds were faint, as, for the boarders , passes were granted without faxes and the day scholars started moving out soon , and now the entire campus is empty , and abandoned .

Vouching in hopefully for no more ouches this semester .

And so am I leaving, not to ever return !

Oouchh!! placement

29th October :  Exams over. But before you could plan what movie to watch or start talking on phone to your...ummm....a bomb drops on your head...that the rumour is possibly true and Accenture is coming for placements in November. So, you lose your sleep and interest in movie.    (phone thing is unavoidable)tension is back in your head. Apti...documents...technical...strengths...GD....or it might not come and it is still a rumour.

30th October:  your worst fears are confirmed. Yup...you have your first company coming and your preparation can be rated on the negative scale. You feel  like banging your head on the wall. This can’t be happening, you were told about 8th sem placements.

31st October :  Official notice is out. You start gathering the resources , let us c...r s aggarwal... mark sheets, certificates and start deciding about the area of interest, supposedly to be your area of expertise(is there any???? Ur mind asks this dumb question). The fact started to sink in.

1st and 2nd November:  Everyone’s started preparing. You see people huddled together in groups of 2 or 3 discussing what might come up. Dinner discussions have changed from movies to current affairs...people started talking about India-china, jinaah, commonwealth games...

3rd November: placements POSTPONED. I mean you get classes postponed, labs postponed but placements...??? The supposed relief does not come. You are neither happy nor sad. Somewhere you had accepted the fact that yes 9th is going to be THE DAY and this cancellation well felt bad....

Come share your views with about this placement nightmare. Are you :) or :(...

Oouchh!! Campus

the notice by the authority that there would not be any shifting of classes on 11th and 12th of October has come as a bitter surprise for most of the students. moreover, it is being said that students missing
classes on those days would lose their grade points and would be fined.
conditions become all the more troublesome for the boarders as only the people with a train or airline reservation would be allowed to go.
the authority is there for managing discipline but this rule is like a total tyrannical order from their side. if a student wants to leave at her own will she should be allowed to do so as we ourselves are responsible for our loss....
this attitude of management make us say ouchh campus...

Oouchh!! science

* Dr. Kary Mullis, Biochemist, 1993 Nobel Prize for Chemistry: Dr. Kary Mullis

"Up to today there is actually no single scientifically really convincing evidence for the existence of HIV. Not even once such a retrovirus has been isolated and purified by the methods of classical virology."

"If there is evidence that HIV causes AIDS, there should be scientific documents which either singly or collectively demonstrate that fact, at least with a high probability. There is no such document." (Sunday Times (London) 28 nov. 1993)

Sorority

I am....
The one who kindles fire
The one who’s spirits never die
I exemplify endless power
Iniquity I always deny

I am not deaf to the clamour power makes
But I’m immune against its clout
I have an agile mind and soul
Vigour that runs throughout

I am as loud as my actions
As silent as my thoughts
Sometimes I crib about things
Sometimes I move and forget about

I am not stuck in the time warp
I am not a rebel towards change
I am not the one who  exhibits calvinism
I don’t know how to chisel , but I how to play the game
I am intrepid and incisive
Pugnacious and sometimes raging
I reflect upon things before they reflect upon me
I’m cautious and calculative

I give no space to fate
To ruin my whereabouts
I lay my foot firm
And stand upright on my ground

I will never die
I was carved out to belong to this soil
Its my spirit , herculean and free
And will stay so till ages undefined
Not only am i the poetess
I am the poem...
