Dad...

I wonder what the feeling must have been like when the first time you held me in your arms..When I was born in this world..a part of you..I wish I had a time turner. Human feelings are so difficult  to decipher..From the time I have gained my consciousness ,how can I forget how you used to wake up at 4 am so that you could wake me up , dress me up, make my hair, how you smiled at me when I got onto the school-bus, how you used to cover my notebooks in brown paper with so much love and write my name on it(you have the best handwriting in the world), even after returning from office  so tired how you worked hard with me so that I can finish my H.W. (I loved solving maths because my dad knew every answer). I still remember you saying that algebra  was your favourite  topic ,
How can I ever forget my first cycle, the one you bought for my 8th birthday..I was so excited and i hugged you so tight .. then when I was in 10th when you taught me how to drive..You were so happy..and now you don’t let me take the car on my own because you fear something terrible would happen..Still you got me a license as you know I do drive it sometimes..How can I forget how much you panic everytime you see me in pain ,how you would  rush to make things right when you see tears rolling down my eyes, how you even stop Maa when she scolds me (even now...), how can I forget how happy you are when you see my results..doesn’t matter how good or bad they are, you are always proud  over me :) how can I forget how you used to hide gifts and chocolates in my socks every midnight on Christmas eve (you are my true Santa)! how will I ever forget you singing  the 'happy birthday' song, the 1st thing when I woke up every 27th of June (with surprise gifts in your hand), how annoyed you used to get whenever you saw me in front of mirror , and how  happy and proud you were to see me give various stage performances...
Now that I am living so far from you, you never give me a single chance  to ask you for something, whatever is needed is always there...still how can I ever tell you how much I  miss you..now when no one is there...
To wake me up..
To tell me to have my meals..
To take me out in the evening...
To bring my favourite   snacks in the mid of the night..
To sing and dance for cheering my forever changing mood...
To tell me to study..
To tell me to sleep..
To tell me not to strain my eyes sitting in front of computer screen..
To tell me not to cry.....
I  am so sorry  I grew older I did not realise how much I must have hurt you, every time I did something you were afraid I would do..I don’t want to mention as that list is long..As children we don’t understand that our parent's very essence of existence revolves around  us.. Something I would know only when I  have a child of my own.. It is so sad the older we grow, it becomes more and more difficult to tell someone how much you care, how much you love them, how far you can go to make them happy, how torn you are when you make them sad and how much you need them .. Sometimes I wish I were small again, I could simply just tell you dad that I am not going to talk to you because I am very angry.. :) (He still has a drawing that I made about 15 yrs ago which had a similar message ! ).I guess being an adult can be very frustrating.. You have so many problems , still you can’t  discuss everything with your dad, sometimes i just want to  cry in his arms.. and think that he would solve all my problems, erase all my pain. But now that I watch him I understand that he too has a lot on his mind and he can't...
For so many things you have sacrificed for my happiness, I love you so much... words fall short ...my eyes are wet as I type this..I don't want to  say thank you and make those  things sound petty. I know I would never be able to tell you this in real but no matter what, you are my perfect man. Though it is impossible but still I wish I get a man who can take care of me just the way you do  and no matter how long it takes whether I deserve such a guy or not I don’t care..because I have what I need most, mom and dad, the 2 most beautiful souls that actually believe in me ,I know you will always be by my side ,my strength and my motivation..and  love me for what I am and always be proud over me !

Every daughter is her father's princess..so am I !! :)

THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED

Almost all Indian writers have written at least one journal about their memory as a kid under their favourite banyan tree or travelling on the uneven and muddy village road .I was myself reminded of it while planning a trip with my college friends as thoughts of “ just 1 year left with my friends “  had started to haunt us.
We usually have our itineraries all mapped out...it’s generally Goa or Kerala (and in Mody’s case Mt. Abu, Pushkar and Udaipur . No doubt Goa would be my favourite holiday destination but don’t laugh if I tell you that for a moment I wished I could take my friends to my family village .Honestly, I haven’t been there much myself , but I still remember going there as a kid with my parents and once afterwards.
The feeling you get after setting foot in that place is just inexpressible .The fresh air , especially  that of wet mud, is completely exhilarating. It was one of the best times I have ever had with my cousins. The first time I had ever been to a real farm anyway we had spent a complete day playing in the “nehar”( a  small stream used for irrigation in between farms ) ,bathing  in the tube well and drinking from the hand pump .I really enjoyed playing “farmer farmer” as I stood on the field plough pulled by the bulls  ,  what are the odds I even told my dad I wanted to be a farmer when I grow up. The next day we woke up to foot long glasses full of fresh milk and after looking at the fat floating on its surface my world came crashing back to reality and I realized I couldn’t be a farmer. It’s true what they say about fresh fruits and veggies on cookery shows, they are delicious and even more delicious when cooked after being plucked directly from the farm.
No wonder people there do not need yoga and meditation centers for peace because they have the most beautiful temples and the ambience there is  infinitely serene. The moment you enter a village temple a sense of peace and calm washes over you (and you can always play with the huge temple bell which as a matter of fact can be heard for miles, it acts like a morning alarm to the people there). Who says there are no adventure sports in the village, try jumping from a tree into the village river or climbing over trees and fighting with the monkeys just to eat mangoes or milking a cow and well in my case getting chased by a bull.
On our last day there we took a ride on a tractor .My brother insisted that he can drive it easily. ..We ended up crashing in the next tree. As a punishment we were told to sleep outside in the farms on jute cots. It turned out to be a completely different experience .I’m sure everybody remembers the yellow sarso fields from Yashraj movies (DDLJ) .It was like sleeping in the same set. We sang all night, heard all kinds of ghost stories from my cousins and Lakhan bhaiya(the person who watched the farms at night)and slept under the starry skies (they are highly under rated). It as the best view and the best night ever.

I often wish to go back there but time has offered me  a limited commodity and so thinking of a trip reminded me of that time, hoping to have a blast under those starry skies with friends (this time preferably gossiping and talking about our love lives instead of horror stories.)
Choosing your holiday destination is never an easy task at hand but if you have some place so intensely rural and Indian to the very core then go there today, you have no idea what you’re missing at . The village life will sweep you off your feet (and the low cost is also a plus for us) and if you have no such place then you can always accompany me on my road less travelled.

Happy Daughter's Day

I know a girl
She puts the color inside of my world
But she's just like a maze
Where all of the walls all continually change
And I've done all I can
To stand on her steps with my heart in my hands
Now I'm starting to see
Maybe it's got nothing to do with me

Fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers, be good to your daughters too

Oh, you see that skin?
It's the same she's been standing in
Since the day she saw him walking away
Now she's left
Cleaning up the mess he made

So fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers, be good to your daughters too

Boys, you can break
You'll find out how much they can take
Boys will be strong
And boys soldier on
But boys would be gone without the warmth from
A womans go...

-John Mayers..

ENGINIUM wishes every daughter a very Happy Daughter's day with lots of hugs and kisses..

But for her we'll stay
The biggest identity on earth

Her partiality is genuine , because at times its the only thing one needs !

To our mothers !

Enginium wishes your mother

And order you to send her wishes , smiles and all the due kisses !

Anna Hazare:Things you should know about him

  • Who is Anna Hazare?
Anna Hazare is a Padma Bhushan-awarded, 72-year old social activist from Maharashtra.
What is known about his early life?
Anna started his career as a driver in the Indian Army. He also fought in the 1965 Indo-Pak war. After voluntary retirement from the army, Hazare came to Ralegaon Siddhi village in    Maharashtra and engaged himself in the activities of social welfare.
  • What have been his special achievements?
He built a self-sustained model village called Ralegan Siddhi (District Ahmednagar,        Maharashtra). In 1975, it was village replete with poverty and devoid of development. Anna helped in tackling problems of alcohol addiction, untouchability in the village. He revived the agricultural practices in the village. Ralegan Siddhi is now one of the richest villages in India. It has become a model for self-sustained, eco-friendly & harmonic village.
  •  What is he campaigning for now?
On April 5 2011, Hazare started a 'fast unto death' to exert pressure on the Government of India to enact a strong anti-corruption act and constitute an independent body called the Office of the Jan Lokpal which would have the power to prosecute corrupt politicians and government officials without seeking permission from the government.
The bill has been drafted by the members of civil society.
  • Will he be able to bring a change?
Most likely he would be able to bring about a drastic change. Because, last time when Anna sat on fast -
    * 6 corrupt ministers in Maharashtra had to resign
    * 400 corrupt officers were dismissed from job
    * 2002 - Maharashtra RTI Act was passed
    * 2006 - Central Government withdrew its proposal to amend Central RTI Act

Crazy women's Day !!

Everytime she smiles
She blossoms like a story untold
A story which lives by  her perceptions
A story of her own crazy world

The Most Awaited-MARATHON 3.0

  • A4 size publicity prints (Grey-scale for cheap printing) on every tree-hung on threads (idea stolen from the cheap Taylor Swift song ‘Mine’)
  • Cloth banners [BIG] on both sides of the first street at the end, close to the MAIN GATE
  • Glucose packs-3 small, I estimate. And at least 3 empty plastic bottles. Water will be asked to be brought by the runners(joggers). Still for backup we can have two water bottles.
  • Invitations to all teachers slipped into their cabins from under the doors.
  • Arrow markings using CHALKS on the whole long route.
  • MAPs (not many copies) maybe just a few on the registration desk since the path is already going to be marked by chalks
  • A rim of white pages and safety pins (200) and if needed more can be bought again. These will be used for the number (runner tag-sort of) at the back of their t shirts

Volunteers may apply for the posts below: (all Enginium members-irrespective of the year or batch)

Happy Republic Day !!

S : “ 26th it is M !! Don’t you think we must have a Republic day post on kalamzine ? like a very patriotic poem . 5 mins mai ho jayegi poem toh ! haina ! chal likhte hai ! “

M : Yes!  A quick 5 mins job then back to editing work!!

S : “Yeah ! Anubha and Rytz will kill us if we don’t give them the final articles now ! “
Thinking
Thinking
Thinking
Thinking

S : “ I can’t think of a line ! so blank I’m feeling at the very thought of a patriotic poem . Am I an Indian for real ! :P “

M: “Is this not very thought provoking!!! We could have fired our pens in one shot for any other gossipy , chatpata topic... L

S: “ Halt ! why are we acting like fanatics ! I am proud of India, but I do randomly sulk too ! “

M: “Yeah me too, proud of being an Indian , cmon S , why write a poem or prose for the sake of writing . Lets ‘Blog’ this conversation “

S : “ yes ! 8 teams we have right ! different genres. We need to dig out some facts that why our republic is not so republic ! why , even after living in this country for so long , my patriotism craves for worthy words ? “

M: “Exactly!  Lets start with  ARTS and CREATIVE !  If our country flaunts itself to be the largest democracy in the world, then why is the Indian Govt. still curbing the freedom of expression of mighty artists. “
S: “ we have myriad cases where an artist is thrown out of the country because he/she has painted or drawn `an objectionable picture / sketch ‘ I adored M.F hussain for his remarkable work and it’s a shame that the govt. could not resist having a legend at home! “

M : “ English for instance ! I googled  the banned books and shocking results... Some of the eye opener books were  mentioned among ...only becoz every Indian could not be eye to eye with the authors’ views. “

M: “ Hindi ...Kitni hindi magazines padhte hai hum. Angrezi lekhako ko to apana liya par kya kabhi  Premchand ke ailawa kisi aur ko humne jana . Kyon ham mein se kayi hindi bolne mein bhi sharmate hai. Angrezi to jaise hamare ‘Status Symbol’ ban gaya ho.”

S : “ Journalism has innumerable examples to crib for ! Fight for a denied justice , decades of an unsolved case , proofs vanishing like bubbles and reality being blown away like dust . But still we are living with it , living in hope that maybe the news is unreal , till it happens to one of us ! “

M: “ Marketing  . ‘Corporate’. For some it was just another movie but did it not potray the hard hitting reality of this big bad world?  Infact why am I acting like a big mouthed Indian when I myself slip a hundred rupee note in some policeman’s pocket to escape the punishment of breaking traffic rules. Bribes and lies...often become a stepping stone to success. IRONIC!!!”

S : “ Photography could be called a stream saved from the malice of politics and curbs as far as we can
reckon “

M: “ Technical . The world famous concept of brain drain takes over here . And we soon will cause it in huge numbers. Selfish we all are , aren’t we ?  But we can study abroad , but come back to nurture your motherland . No! But people still prefer going there , creating millions of bucks for them and ironically enjoying living as second citizens there. “

The above lines do not reflect the aggression we have , but indicates that a voice needs to channel , when our republic does not care for the public. Agreed history is replete with incidents that have made our country proud . But still there is a long way to go .

Why republic ?
Which republic ?
What did we do for our republic ?
Let us list all our cheers and tears (as comments) about some things that we feel glad that happened and those which must not have happened !
Jai hind !
